The Dyna-Cam engine has a long history of development and innovation. There have been seven complete generations of design changes and improvements and $6 - $8 Million spent on R&D in order to complete the Certification tests and the work necessary to launch production. If the same work was completed with today's dollars, the cost would be over $80 Million. Today's Dyna-Cam produces higher torque at lower RPM, and in the opinion of Management, is more reliable than other conventional engines available on the market.
Dr. Karl Herrmann, left, was a brilliant engineer that had close to fifty patents to his name. Some of the bearings he designed are still in use today. The original team pictured here that helped Dr. Herrmann were skilled craftsmen, mechanics and machinists. It took them several years of research and development to achieve FAA certification The industrial arena of engine design is quite different compared to computers and electronics where any design is considered out-of-date within six months of its birth. Likewise, the window of opportunity to take command of any major market share in computers and electronics is less than a year. Engines take years to perfect and to achieve operational performance that will have sufficient longevity. The technology upon which the conventional 6 cylinder and V-8 engine design is based is over 100 years old. The Dyna-Cam is certainly new and revolutionary compared to the conventional engine design. Engine experts all agree that it takes at least three major design generations to prove out an engine design. The Dyna-Cam has had seven.
